When Celebrating Too Early GOES WRONG…

Posted on October 26, 2020 by admin

When I say that the Lakers celebrated too early, you may think of this sequence. With 5:30 to go in game 5, Jimmy Butler loses the ball which results with a dunk on the other end and a 3 point lead for the Lakers. They came back from down 11 in the fourth which is a huge momentum shifter. And when the Heat committed yet another turnover the very next possession, you could sense that this is championship time for the Lakers.
Obviously that didn’t happen as Jimmy Butler and Miami once again pulled off a heroic victory to make the job a bit tougher for Lebron and company.
But this is not what I’m talking about. Los Angeles kind of celebrated even before this game started. Let me explain. What up everybody, my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it.
Before we get into all of that, since I’m neither a Lebron stan, or a hater, let me just address the final possession from a neutral perspective. Since I saw a lot of criticism online.
Look, in the fourth especially at the end, he was determined to battle inside and overpower defenders at the rim. You could see his superhuman strength here when he somehow managed to score while being fouled. Again, right here he fights off 3 Miami defenders for the offensive rebound and puts it back in.
So when the final timeout was called, the entire defense knew who’s gonna have the ball, and where he’s gonna go. James, straight to the rim. So look at this. At this very moment, you have 4 Heat players around him. Meanwhile, Danny Green is completely wide open.
Like, what exactly do you want him to do? He made the correct and the best basketball play for his team. If he shot it and I bet he would have missed, this was going to be the thumbnail for my video. And a lot of other youtubers would have this image of Danny Green circled as wide open, while Lebron shoots the shot. That is not a winning play. James made the right play, and Green just missed it.
BTW, not that I need to defend him or anything. I saw this clip from a Gregg Popovich press conference back from 2013 talking about Lebron, that still holds a lot of weight. Take a listen.
Anyway, I would even go a step further and say that Markieff Morris even tho is now being the face of all memes comparing him with J.R. Smith from 2018, he also had a good intention basketball wise. Just a bad execution. You can see that Anthony Davis has Adebayo sealed right here under the basket so watching this play real time, when I noticed this positioning, in that split second I thought that it was over. Apparently the adrenaline the clock and the tremendous pressure got the best of Morris so he kind of overthrew it. But this is not meme material in my opinion.
Anyway, the Lakers wasted a 6 for 9 shooting from downtown from Lebron.
40 points 13 rebounds and 7 assists on 71% shooting. An epic performance that could have been a big statement piece for his legacy if they won the title.
Which leads me to my initial point. Besides himself, I’m not sure how locked in the rest of the Lakers were. They kind of thought that the 3-1 lead by itself was enough and that Miami would roll over in this game.
So before game 5, the team suddenly announces they’re switching jerseys to the black mamba edition ones. Even tho they weren’t originally scheduled to wear these.
They expected to win the title and wanted to make sure they pay homage to Kobe in this game.
You don’t think about homage in the finals, you go out there and fight. Especially against such a gritty team against the Heat.
Also if you saw Anthony Davis, he hinted at the championship as well with his shoes. Choosing this very game to wear the gold sneakers.
You may say that these are small things, but it proves the point that they came to this game loosy goosy and thought that it’s kind of over.
Instead, they got every ounce of energy from Miami, especially from Jimmy.
Look at the distance covered in this game. Butler, who played almost the entire game, save for 48 seconds, was all over the court and that shows in the numbers.
It’s no surprise that we saw him bent over and completely drained, but at the same time I’m also not surprised that Miami won.
This is why I picked them against Milwaukee and this is why I picked them in this series against LA. Even though ultimately they may not win it, I’ll choose the grit and the hard work, over the flash and the talent, any day for the rest of my life.
Man that was poetic. I’m just happy we get to watch 1 more game from this hard fought series.
That’s it for now, subscribe and talk to you in the next one. Peace out.

Pop is a smart man. I was upset that Danny Green missed, but wearing the Mamba's they had already looked past that game and didn't come to win , they came to play but not win.

Celebrate too early and took the eyes off the game. Never lose focus or celebrate until the game clock is over.

well talents trumps hardwork when ones with talents put in just a little effort. Hardwork over talents is just comfy words for incapable people.

This dude sounds like a idiot. Celebrate too early he can't be serious. The Heat made adjustments to AD guarding butler. That's why they won. In fact u could argue the play before the last play where butler went to the line was pivotal and was badly defended mostly because Lakers were out of timeouts or were down to their last timeout ,totally drained in the comeback and hence lost on D.

At that time, Anthony Jr. Iverson was in the Nuggets, and if LeBron Iverson and Jr were together, they would surely win the championship

As if LeBron and AD didn't put in the hard work to get to where they are. The Lakers put in the hard work to present an outstanding defense, and it showed in Game 6.

I'll take the winner over the loser.

Thank you for being the first one I've seen to point out what I noticed. They were too loose coming into the game and the cockiness showed before tipoff. The whole heat squad took on a mamba mentality when LA was expecting a rollover kind of game. A win's a win, but it could've been one game shorter if they had come in with the same one game at a time mindset rather than expecting a W.
