Basically NY is a vulgar copy of Europe… To keep the new rich money mongers, believing they were as cultured and important as their European ancestors😅 Whilst Europe looked over in amusement and nauseating horror 🤔😂 Pebbledash is awful! 🤮 In England it’s only used in poor people’s coastal houses, because they couldn’t afford plastering or wood!

Before I start viewing this documentary about the "treasure" that was Stanford White, I want to share this information… In the early 1900's, Stanford White invited under aged model Evelyn Nesbit to his NYC apartment where he plied her with liquor to the the point of unconsciousness… he then raped her. This crime took place in a 10'x10" room. The walls and ceiling were paneled with mirrors. Undoubtedly, Ms.Nesbit was not Mr. White's first victim or his last… think Jeffrey Epstein. Fortunately, justice was served in 1906 when Stanford White was shot twice in the back and once through the head. He died instantly.. Read about it here… https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evelyn_Nesbit I'm buoyed by the many comments below referencing the same story.

I'm such an old New Yorker now that this makes me wish Dick Cavett narrated a lot more of these NYC documentaries when he was younger.

how come we see the pix of the buildings n monuments completed but not at the beginning of the construction….hmmm more like inherited architecture… and not make money…and not trained in architecture??? better to distract w love scandals..distract from that fact that even his sketches were weak in comparison to the pre standing buildings? ok..im convinced mr white built the gilded age from scratch 👍🏽

He actually was a great architect, able to combine in a new form several inspirations taken by several architectural ages and places. Please note how the bronze doors of the library are inspired by this – https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barisano_da_Trani – Italian XII th century example. Though, White's doors are more dramatic and powerful and he was able to combine a Medioeval example in a Rainassance building with no contrast. I'm really curious to know where he could have seen the Italian example and which architecural magazines he could have been red. Anyway, his knowledge about historical Italian architecture has certainly been extraordinarly vast.

Sadly if he were born today they would label him ADHD and fill him full of pills. Imagine how many creative minds are being dulled by psychologists.

Mr Stern calls Evelyn Nessbit White's girlfriend?!!!! WTF?!!!!!!! White raped her when she was 14 years old, she was not his girlfriend, not his lover and not his mistress. She was a victim and White got his punishment WAY late.

My name is Floyd Ross Nesbit. My grand father Milton Kidd Nesbit married my grandmother when she was thirteen years old. This was not uncommon in the eighteen hundreds and early nineteen hundreds.I am eighty seven years old now.I remember when I was in high school in the late forty's and early fifty's.Many young teenage girls married and not much was thought about it.Evelyn Nesbit the girl friend of Stanford White was fourteen years old.

You can whitewash a fence with birdshit, but it'll stink. As does this stink. Don't watch this for a history of White, there are better, less flinching ones. Now please excuse the narrators, they need to ice their knees, and master White needs his bath.

Stanford White Murdered. He seemed like a very likely to be a preening egomaniacal man.
no one is killed like that unless they were a selfish cad….that being said, he was Marvelously talented, and being from Boston- we have the Boston public Library and that is a Gilded age monument .!!!!

Stanford White was the designing architect for a log built Episcopalian Mission church (St. Andrew's Episcopal) in Chelan Washington, where I grew up.
It was built in the 1890s, only a dozen years after the town on Lake Chelan was founded. It is a jewel, rustic and elegant at the same time.

It is surprising how recently our history was altered. If one listens carefully one realizes that Stanford White appropriated the architectural abilities and made living by dealing in the very creations of the recently displaced and previous civilization.
