Dear Shallon Lester, we need to talk – This video is recapping the recent controversy surrounding Shallon and her harmful comments toward mental health while correcting some of her claims (being that I am in school to become a Counsellor and current work as a dating coach).
We discuss the topics of her pseudo-diagnosing celebrities like Ellen Degeneres as a Psychopath, and address the harmful comments made about mental illness that Selena Gomez and Pete Davidson deal with. And finally, we will finish off by questioning the intention behind her infamous ‘Evil Week’ and some of her own relationship advice theories.
I also would like to thank D’Angelo Wallace for being one of the first to speak up on this. Because issues surrounding misinformation and toxic opinions about relationships and mental health deserve a voice.

I'm also a Psychology graduate but with a neuroscience minor 🙂 but Shallon is not a licensed clinician, correct, but a certified dating coach, which makes her "advice" concerning. I learned unhealthy and toxic interactions with people in general watching her videos. I unsubscribed and applied real psychology into my life.

Shallon is so very wrong about suicide.
Just wanted to point out something slightly innacurate, Shallon wasn’t making fun of Selena missing an organ, she was mocking Selena because Shallon believes she conned Francia Raisa out of her kidney… still problematic of course, but just wanted to point it out for accuracy’s sake.
It's really great and refreshing to hear a trained person speak about mental health. There have been other YouTubers taking license to speak on mental health issues and not doing it in a productive way. I am a former subscriber of hers and due to many of the issues you highlighted, I unsubscribed. I, like you, hope she gets back in her lane and works on producing content that is positive. Thank you for this well balanced and authentic response to the Shallon Lester situation. You're right, if someone isnt qualified to advise on psychopathy or mental health disorders then they either need to be quiet and leave it to the experts or make it very clear they arent authorised to give advice on that topic. I watch her videos, alot of what she says is helpful and entertaining, personally I take the celeb gossip she speaks about with a pinch of salt but alot of people have spoken out about Ellen and Selena G, so I'm inclined to believe the gist of what Shallon has said about them, although I realise the finer details of what she says isnt necessarily substantiated with evidence. ❤.
Bravo now add publically shaming her and her character . I actually agree with you but I also believe going to Ms. Shallon one on one encourage her to see her faults how it seriously is wrong. Getting peers on You tube to publically all at once is practically real similar to your pet peeve against her which my be a nicer way of putting it. She is a beautiful lady that does have some good vocal points her method of being mean and nasty is a big issue. Showing her compassion and love towards her would be a better way. We all modeling good behavior is the best method in teaching children. I am sure it would work on her rather to persecute her.

What is funny that, Shallon has been doing this for so long and over so many different celebrities, but somehow everyone woke up when she made a video on Ellen? Don’t get me wrong I love Ellen, but isn’t it hypocritical that only after she made a video on Ellen suddenly numerous youtube videos started popping up like mushrooms on the topic “how bad” shallon is? Just saying. 🤷🏻♀️
So are you against Robert Greene too? Because he does not have a degree in psychology but he has written books on Power, seduction etc. I am curious to know your opinion.
IMO Shallon is dealing with her own mental illness issues or triggers herself. I read her father committed suicide when she was younger. I don’t know if there is truth to that but if so, at the very least she’s a victim of mental illness. It could explain her hostility to mental illness and issues of being stuck at age of trauma. Maybe? I agree she needs to stop but I feel like she needs help as well. I hope she holds up through this and it ends up helping her to get help.
The biggest thing I’ve found with Shallon is my first impression was that she wanted to help people. You cannot build yourself up by tearing others down. That helps nobody and it’s devastating to hear some of her words. Maybe she thinks it’s entertaining and is just going on adrenaline of positive comments in the beginning. I hope that’s all it is. This was a wonderful video. Very well planned and executed with zero ambivalence.
Why is everyone trying to grab lime light by judging shallon. She never claimed to be a professional. Everything in her videos is subjective and her life advises based on her experiences. Lot of professional psychologists themselves don't know how to really deal with issues and make them worse. Viewing statements in a video independently and giving a highly negative angle to it is also highly unethical and even your videos should not be allowed on you tube. You also seem to be faking a lot of empathy towards celebrities.

Very interesting video. I haven’t ever watched this woman you’re speaking of. I was listening to what you said and heard you mention Jeff Dahmer and he actually wasn’t ever abused. I think he was primarily sociopathic possibly. Unsure….. but, the absence of abuse is interesting right?
I also need to say that I am disgusted by her comments about suicide. I have a child that we almost lost due to mental illness and suicidal ideation (which he acted upon more than once) and because he thankfully came to me and told me what was happening he is alive today. How dare she say that. Anyone suffering from depression, suicidal thoughts/ ideation should reach out! Please tell someone! Hostage? Terrorist? I pray she , nor anyone else, ever have to watch their child or a loved one go through this hell.
All of these issues you spoke of in regard to her… what is going on? Evil tactics….. this is just baffling and sickening. Yet she is judging others? Whoa. I’m going to pray that her eyes are opened to what she is actually doing and can change. So grateful that I don’t watch channels like that. Thank you.
BTW, our son is doing amazing now. So grateful, SO GRATEFUL, he said something and we were able to get him help and continued to find help for our amazing son.

I used to watched her videos as entertainment. What I don't understand is why people would take her dating advise or even pay for it when her dating life is a failure. She is being divorced and lately cheated on. I would never take advise from someone that not only has not credentials but cannot even keep a man herself. What can she teach us that makes her smarter than the rest? Great video thanks.
It is scary now because more and more people are asking her on insta to give psychology recommendations. To make video with psychology analysis on celebrities or to give advice on why psy book to read. Its so frightening. I also am a student in MS of Psychology Counseling
I've always perceived her videos as "pure entertainment". She's sarcastic and yeah, can push it a bit too far….but as I'm probably older than her average subscribers, I can distinguish those really good advices from…her immoderateness or exaggerations.
I'm not trying to defend her- she is not that important to me…but to me, it seems ppl started hating her because most younger girls (or immature women) cannot handle even the pure thought about her and Harry Styles. They are all acting as they know him on a personal level.
Yeah, she is "stretching" many things, but those are her thoughts and feelings.
I think her channel would be great for mature audience- she would have been perceived funny, perhaps psychobabble and opinionated.
People are putting too much seriousness into all of it. I'm not a psychologist, my grandma was a neuropsychiatrist so I've picked up a lot of things from her. I am(well, was) a journalist…but despising that profession, I've turned to my other mayor, PR. Sorry if I wrote something wrong- English is not my mother's tongue. That's quite frustrating because I cannot express everything I'd like to as I would do it in my language.

Another thing I really find problematic about her videos is the normalisation of the idea that if you are mean, manuplative and thrive for drama, you are a mentally strong "catch" and if you are humble, classy and non problematic, you are just a "plain Jane" (for instance, Kate Middleton as she said in one of her videos)…I am a "plain Jane" too, but I am not a doormat!

From the limited exposure I've had to Lester's work, she's never claimed to be a shrink or a counselor. She seems to be a more hard-edged version of the fluff one finds in her former employer, "Star Magazine". From what I recall of the Selena Gomez Bi-Polar video, Lester put forth a fair amount of evidence that SG "diagnosed" herself with the disorder, and that she(Gomez)had a habit of trotting this out whenever she gets piss-faced
I just saw her video abou how to cheat, and I heard 2 things that leave me worried. She loves boys in a sexual way since six years old, that's so unhealth, I know the intercourse exist since I was five, but I didn't do it with only 5, and at the time, I was not sexual triggered by a boy of my age or older, I just wanted play with them, like I wanted to play with girls, the sexual part only cames in my teenager years.
The other thing is that she said how to gaslight people, and she hates to be gaslighted.
To be honest I think anyone that would go to Shallon for psychological diagnoses has bigger problems. And I think it’s unfair to say that someone (with their full faculties) would equate Ellen being a bitch to Hitler’s actions of trying to wipe out millions just because Shallon mentioned them

I made a comment on her video about the flaws in her statement about how sociopaths are only born and despite by BA in psychology, I was beginning to think I was crazy based on everyone's responses. Putting myself aside, thank you for talking about this in a calm, healthy way. Subscribed! Wonderful to see other psychology majors give their educated thoughts, rather than the pseudo psychology that fills you tube.

What she has said about Ellen is horrible…just horrible… I love Ellen… and Ellen is the most open hearted, fun loving, generous human beings out there. I do believe that Shallon just doesn't have the capacity to see someone as generous, because Shallon herself doesn't have any of these traits, so I do believe she is extremely jealous of people who are successful… Shallon would love to be Ellen and have that show… but first Shallon may need some help from a real professional…..she's not well….
She is not listening. It may not have been meant to be an attack but it was. Not saying you did not make some valid points but this was definitely an attack. No problem with it, just own it.
Shallon has become very comfortable in her home. She does not have someone's reactions to modify her responses. She has said in other videos that she needs her "juice" (alcohol) to get through. She has said in a video that her therapist diagnosed her as a low-level Narcissist. In another video, she said covert Narcissist. She, also, seemed proud to be one. Watch MedCircle on Narcissism. Shallon is a covert Narcissist.
as the person who has bpd and suicidal thoughts I'll express very unpopular opinion here. That's great that society is going in direction of accepting and not stigmatising those things. But in real world it doesn't work like that. What I like about Shallon is she is not sugar coating the truth. I would have to live in bubble of close friend and family in order not to be seen as just weak and over sensitive. It's a very complicated matter and actually encouraging a person not afraid to talk about his/her mental issues can have traumatic consequences.
I know it's hard to understand when you don't have such issues in your life. We all know what is right and wrong "on paper", and in theory you are 100% right, but you are missing a huge point.
And omg Shallon is just ex celebrity magazine editor, who takes those things seriously?
I think the main problem is that gossip, rumors (which is her real and true passion and career) and mental health don't go together, but she is determined to mix them both,for views….is the gossip magazine recipe to engage tennagers…..I don't think she is really interested in mental health at all 🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️
I have more than one autoimmune disease and it requires a huge lifestyle change. Lupus, a transplant, and drinking is extremely dangerous and can lead to an early death.My spoon group is very upset about this in regards to Selena Gomez.
