Japan's Biggest Gaming Obsession Explained | Pachinko

Posted on September 25, 2020 by admin

Pachinko is Japan’s biggest game. And yet many people overseas have never even heard of it.

► WHERE we played: Ebisu Cafe in Takayama!

Many thanks to Ebisu Cafe for sponsoring this video; we’d long wanted to get into a Pachinko parlor to film, and we had a great time uncovering the games history and letting Natsuki loose on the machines.

► Learn more about Pachinko:

NOTE: Winning is not guaranteed. (Natsuki is genuinely experienced. And a lucky boy).

Since pachinko is so fucking loud and it smells awfully like alcohol and smoke in there I tend to avoid them…… But maybe I’ll should go at least once? Just to experience it? OOF. I DONT KNOW.

ok, fine, great … very well made short docu about this beautiful and crazy machine … but not even once during the more than 11 minutes of this video we hear anything about the similarities of this toy with the famous Western Pinball machine, do we?!

Interestingly enough, I actually first heard of pachinko from an episode of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, but had no idea that it was a Japanese gambling game.

I’ve played Pachinko in Okinawa. The noise inside the parlor is deafening. If there is any skill playing, it was lost on me. The game is automated. I have no control. I found it boring.
