– This video presents the Radiation (SAR) values for Apple’s iPhone 7. Is the iPhone 7 “safe,” and what are the things you can do to reduce the effects of the radio frequency radiation emitted by the phone?
A smart phone or mobile phone’s radiation level is measured in terms of Specific Absorption Rate or SAR. SAR is a measure of the rate at which energy is absorbed by the body when exposed to a radio frequency (RF) electromagnetic field such as when making a call with the cell phone. It is defined as the power absorbed per mass of tissue and measured in units of watts per kilogram (W/kg). SAR is usually averaged either over the whole body, or over a small sample volume (typically 1 g or 10 g of tissue
The SAR limit is 1.6 watts per kilogram in countries (e.g. USA, Canada, India) that set the limit averaged over 1 gram of tissue and 2.0 watts per kilogram in countries (e.g. Europe) that set the limit averaged over 10 grams of tissue.
Here are the SAR values for the iPhone 7 smartphone…
For countries that employ the 1.6 W/kg (over 1g) SAR limit:
Model A1778 – Head: 1.19 Body: 1.19
Model A1779 – Head: 1.20 Body: 1.19
Model A1660 – Head: 1.19 Body: 1.20
Model A1780 – Head: 1.19 Body: 1.20
For countries that employ the 2.0 W/kg (over 10g) SAR Limit:
Model A1778 – Head: 1.38 Body: 1.34
Model A1779 – Head: 1.32 Body: 1.38
Model A1660 – Head: 1.37 Body: 1.39
Model A1780 – Head: 1.37 Body: 1.39
So, is the iPhone 7 a “safe” phone if its ratings are under the SAR limits? Well, it’s not quite so simple.
SAR does not measure non-thermal radiation, which every cell phone emits regardless of its SAR rating. The current exposure safety standards are mainly based on the thermal effects. Experts say that non-thermal effects are more harmful than thermal effects.
Non-thermal (which means, “not produced by heat”) effects include: damage to the immune system, cellular malfunction, breakage of DNA strands, and other adverse effects discovered through scientific studies over the years.
The most effective electromagnetic radiation protection you can use for your iPhone (or any other cell phone) is one that reduces or mitigates the non-thermal effects. Such devices include: the gia cell guard (a mobile phone radiation protection device), gia cell guard case (a cell phone radiation protection case), and the gia air tube headset.
