How Singapore Fixed Its Housing Problem

Posted on November 29, 2020 by admin

Singapore had a severe housing shortage decades ago. But it developed one of the world’s best public housing programs, which has also allowed a huge number of its citizens to buy their own homes.

Fuck la. What lame housing policy. The single parents have restricted access to public housing because of all the fucked up couples existing in SG. They are homeless thanks to PAP. They just try to pacify singles by giving grants because they know we will want to vote for opposition. Made affordable for everyone? Bullshit. Only couples.

In the past, they denied access to BTO flats for singles. This is how lousy their policies are. In 2013, they changed their policies because of more singles voicing out and they dont wanna lose face to opposition.

0:08 High density housing is inhumane, unnatural and physically, mentally unhealthy. I don't see why we should glorify it.

Now after so many years, this kind of vertical housing will also be implemented to Manila, Philippines through the leadership of Mayor Isko Moreno. He said in the ground breaking ceremony of the project that he wants to raise the standards of living of the common people and that he wants to lead the way in making decent housing for all Filipinos, starting in Manila.

Unless the Government manages building housing, private entrepreneurs would simply manipulate prices to maximises profits, rounding up old villages, threatening them to sell with gangsters, fires and scams, selling off vacant lands for housing at exorbitant rates, the rich gets richer while the poor gets left out, inflated prices of houses is an ugly problem most Government couldn’t resolve at all.

I can’t help but notice you glossed over all the land reclamation Singapore had to do… obliterating its coastal ecosystems and buying sand from pirates who stole it from the waters of neighboring countries.

With all due respect, public housing is considered synonymous with poverty and crime only in the US. Heve you ever been to Vienna, for example?

San Francisco has so much to learn from Singapore when it comes to dealing with its housing crisis. People don't need to live on the streets or struggle to afford rent, and Singapore shows the efficacy of smart government policy.

also you can't own more than 1 flat at a time. this prevents the upper class from hoarding real estate which drives up prices while they squeeze rent money out of the peasants.

Only Singapore satisfies people’s need of housing. Because Singapore don’t gain money by the way of calculating people’s house but by the way of supporting people’s life.

You can also buy HDB apartments from the resale market. You don't necessarily have to apply for a brand new one.

What this piece of news won’t tell you is that in a few more years, those HDB flats will have reached their 99 year lease, and when they happens, the government takes it all back at ZERO value. Question is: what will happen to those ‘home-owners?’

I wonder if this could be done without the need to create public housing. Could a country regulate into existence some kind of diversity quota for every neighbourhood to prevent segregation?
